Dr John Carmody

John is the practice principal and has been working in general practice since 1991 and in Balgowlah since 1996. He was formerly a chartered accountant working in Sydney and London. He enjoys the variety that general practice offers with special interests in preventive health, ENT (ear, nose and throat disease) and low level laser therapy. He lives with his wife Maria in Manly. He enjoys cycling, paddling and motorcycling.

Dr Maria Carmody

Maria graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1986 and went on to complete a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She worked in Newcastle and Tasmania and has been in Balgowlah since 1996. Maria loves the breadth and complexities of General Practice and has special interests in adolescent and women’s health. She raised her four children in Manly and enjoys new adventures, getting into nature and spending time with family and friends.

Dr Kim Duffy

Dr Michael Kim Duffy M.B.B.S (UNSW) 1977 F.A.M.A.C is an experienced family medicine GP with special interests in preventative medicine, musculo-skeletal medicine, medical acupuncture and laser therapy. After 20 years of solo GP practice in Mosman, he joined the BFP team in 2011.

Dr Ashley Collard

Ashley graduated from Adelaide University in 1982 and moved to the northern beaches two years later, where he has happily remained ever since. In the interim he undertook local training as an Emergency physician, and gained a diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology plus spent a dedicated year in Paediatrics, before spreading his skills amongst local emergency / The Mater / general practice, eventually consolidating his work at BFP, where he has done sessions since the turn of the century. He lives with his wife and family, half way between the beach and the practice.

Dr Richard Coles

Richard completed his RACGP fellowship in 2015. He has a medical degree from the University of Sydney (2010). Prior to that he completed a B. Sc (Hons 1) and a Ph.D (Immunology) at the University of Melbourne. Areas of interest: Mens health, skin cancer medicine, paediatrics, Orthopaedics/Sports medicine, chronic disease management, and preventative health. He is an Orthopaedic Surgical Assistant at the Mater hospital. Richard lives on the Northern Beaches with his young family and enjoys an active outdoors beach lifestyle, red wine and good food!

Dr Joanne Mar

Joanne completed her medical degree at University of NSW in 1997 and has worked in General Practice since 2001. She joined Balgowlah Family Practice in 2005 and she enjoys caring for patients of all ages and the wide range of medical challenges that can make up General Practice. She has special interests in mental health, adolescent and women’s health and lifestyle and preventative medicine. Joanne lives on the lower North Shore with her husband and their two teenage daughters. She works hard to be a competent Ballet and Music (piano, oboe, percussion) Mum. She also enjoys reading, cooking, eating out and spending time with family and friends.

Dr Jack Blomeley

Jack is a Fellow of the RACGP who received a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Sydney in 2017. He underwent most of his medical training on the Northern Beaches and has spent years working closely with specialists in medical and surgical services at Manly Hospital and the Northern Beaches Hospital.

Jack prides himself on being the quintessential family GP, looking after patients from all walks of life. He has special interests in paediatrics, general medicine, chronic disease management and men's health.

Before Jack was in medicine, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from UTS. He worked for many years at the Manly SeaLife Sanctuary caring for the penguins, sharks, turtles and fish. He enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 young boys, anything sports related, and cherishes all opportunities to be under the water.

Practice Nurse – Leah

Leah completed a Bachelor of Nursing Science at the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2019. She has since relocated to Manly and started working in general practice as a registered nurse.

Leah works closely with the doctors to optimise patient care through health assessments, chronic disease management plans, childhood checks, immunisations (influenza, travel, and childhood vaccines), wound care, and minor surgical procedures.

She enjoys travelling, beach days, going to the gym, and running.
